If you wanted to 10X the revenue of your interior design firm, where would you start?
More marketing? Bigger projects? Higher prices? Another employee?
I wouldn't start with any of them.
Before trying to create ten times the revenue, I'd want to know whether the business could actually handle ten times the opportunity.
Many successful interior design firms grow revenue faster than they grow their infrastructure. The projects get bigger and the team gets busier, but the owner is still approving every important decision, answering client questions, solving procurement problems, and holding critical processes in her head.
That's not scale. It's more volume moving through the same bottleneck.
In this week's episode of Success by Design, I'm sharing the six things I would focus on if I wanted to 10X an established design firm. We'll talk about designing the company before choosing the revenue target, identifying your highest-value work, fixing capacity before creating more demand, removing founder dependency, understanding which revenue is actually profitable, and building a smarter revenue engine.
I'm also sharing a simple 10X exercise that can reveal exactly where your current business model would begin to break under significant growth.
Because ten times more of a broken model doesn't create a better business. It creates a bigger broken business.
