When to Hire in Your Interior Design Business

When you're overwhelmed in your interior design business, hiring someone can feel like the obvious solution. There are too many projects, too many emails, too many vendor questions, and nowhere near enough hours in the week.

But needing help doesn't automatically mean you need another employee.

One of the most common hiring mistakes I see interior designers make is jumping straight to an assistant or junior designer without first identifying what's actually creating the pressure. If bookkeeping is eating up your time, another designer won't fix it. If your team constantly needs answers because nothing is documented, adding another person simply gives you one more person asking questions.

In this week's episode of Success by Design, I'm walking through what needs to happen before you make your next hire. We'll talk about tracking your time, evaluating your financials, understanding the true cost of an employee, considering fractional support, and building the systems someone needs before they can successfully take ownership of their role.

I'm also digging into why hiring another designer too early can backfire, especially when your creative process and signature point of view still live primarily in your head.

If you've been saying, I just need somebody to help me, this episode will help you slow down and ask a much more useful question:

What does my business actually need?

Listen to the full episode to learn how to determine whether you're truly ready to hire—and how to build capacity without simply adding more people to manage.
