If you’ve ever wondered whether you should hire a coach—or worried about choosing the wrong one—you’re not alone. I see this question come up all the time, usually quietly, usually with a lot of hesitation behind it.

Here’s what I want to say right out of the gate: needing a coach does not mean you’re failing.

In fact, most designers don’t seek coaching because their business is broken. They seek it because they’re successful—but unsupported. Revenue looks fine. The calendar is full. The team might even be in place. And yet… everything feels heavier than it should.

That’s not a motivation problem. And it’s not a discipline issue either. It’s often a sign that your business has outgrown the structure that carried you this far.

In this episode of Success by Design, I’m pulling back the curtain on what coaching is actually for—and when it truly makes sense to invest. We talk about why staying stuck is often more expensive than moving forward, why coaching isn’t about “learning more information,” and why popularity and Instagram followings are a terrible metric for choosing support.

I also walk through what I personally look for when I hire a coach, the red flags I pay attention to, and why alignment matters far more than aspiration. This conversation isn’t about pressure or urgency. It’s about clarity—so you can make a decision that fits your business stage, your values, and your definition of success.

If you’ve ever felt unsure, burned before, or simply overwhelmed by all the options out there, this episode will help you slow down, ask better questions, and decide what kind of support actually makes sense for you.
